What you'll learn

The Medical Institute of Kentucky Surgical Technologist is a course that runs for 24 weeks. Students will engage in a stimulating range of learning activities that include enthralling and virtual hands-on learning experiences. Throughout the course, surgical procedures are demonstrated using live recorded videos, simulated activities, and virtual tools to allow the student an engaging, safe, and repeatable experience. Career Development is also obtained throughout the program.

The Healthcare employee with Surgical Technologist training will have responsibilities that include assisting with surgeries in an operating room. Gathering and organizing all necessary tools needed to perform these procedures and monitor patients’ vital signs throughout surgery. They also provide assistance as required by surgical teams while passing instruments that have been sterilized. 

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of a Surgical Technologists is projected to grow 9 percent from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations. About 9,000 openings for Surgical Technologist are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

The Surgical Technologist student will complete instructional and simulation laboratory procedures for a period of up to 24 weeks in length. Successful completion of all courses is required to receive a program certificate of completion.

Program Objectives

This program does not meet state licensing or regulatory requirements for Surgical Technicians in the following states: ID, IL, MA, NV, NY, SC, TN, TX, and VA.
